One of my clients had written their own realtime monitoring system for their industrial process, it works great except for the fact that it is only usable on the one PC and this is often not ideally located for the users. They needed a realtime distributed monitoring system.
getWaiter! is a service to provide better service to bar, restaurant and hotel customers while providing valuable performance information back to the venues management. A unique code is present on each of the service points (table, room etc) that the customers will scan and then presented with a series of buttons to call various actions, call the waiter for example. This action is then displayed on a terminal situated where the venues staff can see this and respond.
While the electronics and software are the bulk of my career they are not everything I can do. Having worked for many types of company, both big and small across many areas I have picked up a few other bits and pieces along the way. Being of the practical type new stuff comes relatively easy and I'm always up for learning something new.
I grew up in the seventies computers were big, very expensive and not for the masses, the home computer revolution had not yet begun. The most technologically advanced thing in the home was the TV remote control to select one of the four channels! The closest I had come to a computer was a teletype terminal at school hooked up to some magical box through the telephone handset. It was 1980, things were about to change!
One of my clients wanted to offer a simple low cost inspection system to one of their end users. A traditional low cost inspection system would cost several thousands of pounds, they were aiming at several hundred, what about using a tablet?
I was recently asked to design a unit to replace a standard PLC that had reached the limitations of its capabilities. The PLC is part of a bespoke system for food package inspection that fits in to a production line.
Meet the new getWaiter mascot. We call him Mr G at the moment but he is looking for a better name, any ideas anyone? Look out for Mr G at a hotel or restaurant near you.
getWaiter! is a project we have been working on for the last few months for a company called GeniusIn based in Olney, Buckinghamshire in the UK. The concept behind it is to use technology to improve your bar, restaurant or hotel experience, an idea conceived by pair of entrepreneurs around ten years ago that has been waiting for the right time.
At last the getWaiter! website has finally gone live. It is now possible for Hotels, Restaurants and bars to sign up, start using getWaiter and offer an improved service to their customers. To have a look go to www.getwaiter.com
The final version of the getWaiter animations have been finished and uploaded to you tube, check them out here.
